Hi Wonderful Incoming Ninth Graders, Incredible Credit Recovery Students, and Amazing Parents,

Here we all are, thrown into the swimming pool of "Distance Learning". We will have days that we: swim smoothly, or struggle and doggy-paddle our way to the other side, and occasionally, we will be sinking and need a life guard's assistance to take us to safety. But whatever it is, it will be an adventure and we will get through it!

How do I know that? I have been teaching at Paloma Valley High School for 20 years and I know the strength, intellect, charm, and vitality of our Wild Cats!  In addition, my educational journey has taken me from being an English Major at CSUSD and earning a BA, to Graduate School of Education at UCLA earning my teaching credential, to law school at California Western School of Law where I earned my Juris Doctorate Degree, to earning a Master's Degree in Science in Educational Theory and Practice from Arkansas State University. For 18 years I was involved in the law practice, where at that time, my husband and I had 5 law offices in L.A. and Orange County. However, teaching English was always my passion, so I decided to follow it and here I am.

I have taught ELL to adults, English 9 and 12, Linguistics, and Credit Recovery. For 9 years I was the Work Experience Coordinator at Paloma, too. I have enjoyed all the classes I have taught here and in March, it was the first time I had the experience of Distance Learning. That experience gave me an idea of what this year will look like with its challenges, but they are nothing that all the students can't overcome. For assistance, the way to reach me is by email. I'm not sure of the turn around time, but if you haven't gotten a response within the week, definitely resend it with the notation in the "Subject" area stating "2nd Email". I'm guessing here as these are new waters we're exploring.

For my Ninth Grade English Students- ALL the assignments given, submission of assignments, and grading will occur on CANVAS, the Learning Management System (LMS) being used. This year we will be using the Pearson(Savvas) text and it is online. I will be following the State of California Common Core Standards for ELA (English Language Learners). More information is posted on the CANVAS site.

For my Credit Recovery Students- We will be using Plato for all assignments. Make sure to stay on task and parents, please check on your child's work each week.

So, get ready to enter the waters of knowledge armed with your Chrome Books and being prepared for class! FOR MONDAY, AUGUST 10th- Please go to the Canvas Site for your designated period at the beginning of your class period. Looking forward to meeting you all!
